Job Description
The
successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and
maintaining local area computer network activities of the business unit,
and providing first line IT support for all business applications,
specifically the DataSaint Delta, T&A system and PayPal application.
With
guidance and approval from the Group Director of IT, a primary
responsibility of this position is to, specify, configure, install, and
maintain the local area network hardware, software, and’
telecommunications services such as personal computers, system software,
software applications, printers, servers, routers, switches, cabling,
and Internet service providers to support attainment of the business
goals and objectives.
Reporting
Line: Section Manager Cost & Management Accounting, with a dotted
line to Group Director of IT, the Administrator, Information Technology,
Tanzania
Location: Mkuju River Project.
Work Schedule: Rotational Status, (6 weeks on 2 weeks off)
Specific Accountabilities
Administers policies and procedures related to the procurement of any IT related equipment and software.
Benchmark,
analyze and recommend to the Director of IT improvements’ of the IT
infrastructure and IT systems within the business unit.
Ensure compliance with IT security policy and strategy.
Oversee
the maintenance and expansion of the fixed line telephony systems.
Establish and maintain active directory, user environment, directories,
and security. Provide first line support for all business applications
within the business unit. Manage problem resolution of applications on
behalf of end users
Train users on proper software and equipment usage.
Respond
to the needs and questions of network users concerning their access to
resources on the network and the operation of various applications.
Comply with IT General Control and SOX best practice policies and guidelines as provided through corporate governance.
Establish
and maintain regular written and in-person communications with other
supervisors, managers, department heads, and end users regarding
pertinent IT activities for the area of responsibility
Coordinate
activities of hardware, software, telecommunications, support, and
training vendors. Assist Director of IT with development of business
case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT operational spending within the business unit.
Administer
local IT vendors, outsourcing, and consultant contracts and service
agreements Ensure local operations are in compliance with all licensing
and legal requirements as they-relate to I)
Install and test software upgrades.
Maintain all production servers within the business unit in a state of high availability
Maintain a virus free environment within the business unit through proper use and application of corporate provided tools
Ensure
daily, weekly, monthly and annual backup strategies are adhered to.
Formulate, revise and implement IT disaster recovery plan and
procedures.
Person Specifications
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from an accredited four year College or University
Experience
At least 5 years of recent experience in IT with emphasis on Network & Administration.
Knowledge and Skills
A broad knowledge of information technology standards with strong IT skills
Thorough
understanding and technical knowledge of current network and server
operating systems, hardware, protocols, and standards
Working knowledge of VMware 4.x specifically related to the backup and recovery of virtual instances.
Thorough understanding of contemporary systems, development methodologies, and tools
