Job Description


BRAC is an international development organization dedicated to alleviating poverty by empowering the poor to bring about change in their own lives.  The organization focuses on working with poor women and takes a comprehensive approach to increasing their self reliance.  BRAC Tanzania is now operating in 112 branches across the country and offering integrated services in microfinance, agriculture & livestock, and empowerment and livelihoods for adolescents.
In Tanzania, BRAC is looking for new members to join its Research and Evaluation Unit (REU), which is an in-house but independent facility supporting BRAC’s existing development programmes.  The primary responsibility of this Unit is to generate knowledge on the relevance and effectiveness of BRAC’soperations. The vision for this Unit is to go beyond evaluation of BRAC programmes and make significant contributions in the national development agenda through rigorous, relevant and well communicated knowledge.

Job Description
BRAC REU is looking to hire a Research Assistant, who will provide support in the execution of research projects and report writing.  Research assistants will also be encouraged to initiate smaller scale, individual research studies.
Responsibilities
·         Conduct research project(s) in consultation with supervisor
·         Design questionnaires
·         Facilitate training of enumerators
·         Facilitate data collection
·         Clean and analyze data
·         Write reports
·         Conduct field visits to pilot questionnaires, collect data, learn about programmes, initiate new studies and generate research ideas
·         Any other task, as given by supervisor

Qualifications
·         Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline to BRAC programs (eg. Development studies, agriculture, economics, business, anthropology, etc.)
·         High academic performance evidenced in GPA score
·         Research experience
·         Excellent written and oral communication skills – English and Kiswahili
·         Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities
·         Knowledge of statistics and STATA is an asset
·         High attention to detail
·         Strong team player
·         Takes initiative and demonstrates strong sense of responsibility
·         Strong organizational skills and ability to perform well under pressure
·         Willingness to travel frequently within Tanzania, as required by work assignments
